The Open Championship Staff Bag
The British Open is the oldest major championship in golf, and the Steam Line staff bag is worthy of the occasion. Black, red, green colorways and accents of gold can be found throughout, in addition to subtle nods that pay respect to Northern Ireland and the British Open.
The staff bag’s prominent design features draw inspiration from the Portrush steam line train that’s been in operation since 1855. Its engine colors of red and black are featured prominently on the bag’s exterior, as is green which signifies the color of the passenger cars. The staff bag’s side panels are black and showcase rivets, just like the train’s engine.
Subtle nods to the infamous Portrush steam line train and Northern Ireland appear throughout. On the backside top valuables pocket, a patch commemorates the host venue in the form of a vintage train ticket. Directly below, a clover celebrates Northern Ireland.
The year ’25 on either side panel marks this year’s British Open. A train on the handle further celebrates the iconic steam line. ‘All Aboard!’ appears on the frontside valuables pocket. The interior lining of the pockets was inspired by the train’s seat cushions.
While the Summer Commemorative Staff Bag stands out from afar, there are some subtler details that are not to be overlooked. ‘Pittsburgh Persimmon’ is scripted into the topside valuables pocket and the carry strap where it reminds us of TaylorMade’s first metal wood. ‘Original One’, another moniker for the first metal wood, is bordered by the year 1979 marking TaylorMade’s founding year on the lower of the two backside valuables pockets.
On the Staff Bag’s bottom collar, the years 1927, 1935, 1953, 1962, 1973, 1983, 1994, 2007, 2016 and 2025 mark each year the host venue has staged the Summer Commemorative. Stitching on the handle honors the host venue’s church pew-lined bunkers.
